Default 4l80e questions

Some background, i picked up my 4l80e last year and had someone rebuild it. They also did the dual feed mod. I installed it and its ran good the past year. Put maybe 400 miles on it, did some other work to the truck so it was parked a lot.
The other day it felt like it wasn't engaging 3rd, and I also had the transgo sk 4l80e kit to put in. so I dropped the pan. Fluid smelt burnt, and clutch materials lined the pan. The magnet was missing from the pan, and when I removed the valve body I counted 5 nylon *****. According to the transgo kit it should be 8. I also found the seperator plate had a hole welded closed, appears to be for the dual feed mod.
My question is, the transgo sk 4l80e kit says that welded hole should be drilled to 1/8", does that still apply even with the dual feed mod? My other question is, are the nylon ***** known for disappearing? The seperator plate doesn't show much wear where the ***** sit.

Pretty sure the ***** are supposed to be stainless steel, not nylon. Nothing should be welded for the dual feed mod, but you do need holes in the VB and in the direct drum. Something sounds fishy...

I am picking up some steel ***** from sonnax (friends wife works there). I'm also going to call the guy who rebuilt it. I know other trannys that he has rebuilt and they are fine, all 4l80e too. I do remember hI'm telling me he left the middle seal out on the center support, but left the seal in on the piston.
The 4l80e sk from transgo had me drill one hole in the VB for a pressure relief valve, and one hole elsewhere. I'm also drilling the seperator plate as their instructions say.

I think he's talking about torlon check *****. Not metal and many prefer them.

Yes, those are the ***** I found in it. Only 5 though, not sure where they were since they dropped once I pulled the valve body.

They're great. Won't hurt the case or separator plate over time. Sonnax sell them.
