Default 4L80 vendors?

Hey Yall,
So i just bought an 03 silverado rcsb with the 4.8 and 180k miles, trans is slipping going into third gear so i am going to go ahead and do the 4L80 swap to prepare for the turbo 6.0 that will eventually go in the truck. Ive been considering getting one from monster tranmissions, but have heard mixed reviews. Who would you guys suggest?? THANKS

The only good reviews on a Monster Transmission are the ones they create. They have ton's of negative reviews as well as several that have been disassembled after they failed and proven the customer did not get exactly what they pay for.

Performabuilt.

A stock built 80e with a shift kit and internal dual feed mod will do you just fine.

Any local builder can do that at a much reasonable cost.

I would research RPM.

I couldn't agree more - unless you're planning to really push some power through the thing, I wouldn't spend more than needed on a "beefed up" 80e. A good rebuild with the shift kit and internal duel feed mod as mentioned will be more than enough trans.

A beefed up 80 is exactly what im looking for but ive asked all of the trans shops in my area how much they charge to install an HD2 kit in a LKQ ($700) trans, literally everyone of them said $2500 without batting an eye, which i thought was kinda insane..

I only paid 3800 for the truck, so spending 4k on a RPM trans is not an option.

Would be ideal if i could find one with a hd2 kit already installed for 1000-1200 without converter

Sloppy Mechanics has one of the best and thorough YouTube videos on the HD2 install. It’s almost an hour long.

It is not hard.

Ok so i found an 80 with 92k miles for 950 and a trans tech to install the HD2 kit for a reasonable price. I have been following Sloppy for a couple of years and my build is about 80% sloppy copy but im not comfortable with trans work, never been in one and dont plan on it. They scare me haha.

Only other thing to iron out would be the stall rpm. What would you guys suggest for the sloppy stage 2 cam (228/230 .585 lift) that will be daily driven? im thinking the smaller stall circle d(2600-2800) would be ok but ive always heard that for a daily driver you shouldnt go over 2500

Thanks again guys!!

CircleD 2A.

Its their 3000-3200 converter for the 80e. You can even order it with a 3 lug setup instead of 6.

Great converter, great manners.

FYI the factory converter is already around a 2500 stall in the 80. You will want to step it up to about a 3000 as recomended.
