4L80 Swap Tips and Tricks Welcomed

How many quarts of fluid do i need?
What tips do you have for dropping the old or stabing the new tranny?
Any Special tools needed to reach anything?

I've got my:

Tranny w/ TC and 3r Neapco yoke
modded x member
my tune
VSS wired
plans for the wire swap on the harness
Rear cooler line extension
New TC bolts
New flywheel, spacer and bolts
New Dipstick and tube
New dust shield

I think I just need to pick up some fluid and a new u-joint... anything I'm forgeting? I'll be doing this on a lift and have a tranny jack that I'll be borrowing.

is the trans new? it holds alot of its dry.
new filter?

its a really simple swap.

you might need about 4' of extensions for the top couple bolts.. or get a ratchet wrench from behind the Intake.

Looks like you got it pretty much covered. I was going to suggest a conversion converter if you're doing an aftermarket tq converter anyway, but it seems you already have that under control. It just eliminates the need for the flexplate/spacer/bolts...

07 model Junkyard pulled tranny with an HD2, but it's pretty damn dry. Got the filter and plenty of extentions..... Using a stock 4L80 converter so the new flywheel was a must. Keep em coming. Really don't see why this should take more than half a day.

Shouldn't take but a few hours if you've got everything laid out and have air tools ;)

Did it come with the shift cable bracket? The 60E bracket won't fit right...

oh yeah, got a new shift cable bracket too, Air tools are plentiful.. my biggest worries are with my Y-pipe, it's a tight fit now, think I'm gonna need to massage it a bit.

Custom built = custom problems LOL.... I know this all too well. :eyes:

Yeah, silver-mod-o has it pretty much covered. the hardest part for me was dragging the tranny under the truck then trying to get it on the jack. the 4l80e is a heavy bitch.

Yeah your Y wont fit, the 60e has kind of a notch in the front, the 80e pan does not, so you may have to drive off open header.

I'm hoping that the slope on the rear of the 80 pan will give me enough clearance, It's gonna be tight. But hell, I've run open headers before, I aint skeerd to do it again, lol
