Default 4L75e Going Once, Going Twice...

I consider myself to be fairly sharp, and can come up with acronyms and aliases with the best of them...but I cannot find any threads indicating that any forum member has installed and reported on the 4L75e transmission? My FLT Level 4 & Yank TT2600 have given their best but I need to move up to something "designed" to support my setup. I don't want this turn into a 4L60/65/70 versus 4L80/85 debate...of the two, I know that the 4L80/85 is the right choice. But the 4L75e has been out for a couple years now, requires NO adaptation for my application and by spec appears to meet the requirement. And conveniently, I have a PI triple disk 2600 stall sitting on the bench...but I'm not letting the converter make my decision. So, as a last "speak now or forever hold your peace" I'm reaching out to see if anyone has real world experience with the 4L75e that they can share before I do this. Again, I think everyone's tank is topped off with 4L60 thru 4L85 experience (and yet the debate continues)...any and all 4L75e feedback is greatly appreciated.

On your mark, get set, GO!

I'm guessing that no one else has either, but since it's free to ask. I wonder how far off my current 4L60 tuning will be from what is needed for a 4L75.

You know that a all are just variations of the 4l60e right? 4l65e...4l70e...4l75e...they're all just a 4l60e with some upgrades so GM gave them a different number to represent those upgrades. Your FLT level 4 is most likely a stronger unit than the "4l75"

the 4l75 is nothing special other than the sonnax input drum with 8 clutches rather than a stock drum with 7 clutches.

I doubt Chuck would ever claim that his Level 4 has the same 650 ft lbs torque capacity as the 4L75, let alone stronger. But he does build his Level 7 to beyond the 4L75 specs.

The 4L75 parts list includes the SmartTech drum along with:
• Heavy duty upgrades including 5 pinion gear sets
• Heat treated stator shaft splines
• Induction hardened turbine shaft
• Eight-plate 3-4 clutch packs
• Unique, high-strength input housing
• Specific valve body calibration
• Higher-capacity servo
• Larger 2-4 band

It has other Sonnax HD parts that are typical in a performance build (shift kit, 2-3 valve, etc.). I read that the input & output shafts are hardened, not billet, but I thought that I read that it has a redesigned case as well? I cannot find the article where I believe I saw it. I will check with SDPC or Pace tomorrow to verify.

No, the case was not redesigned but it has most, if not all of the Sonax parts in it as mentioned.

Yeah, that's one of the 4 pages I bookmarked when I was looking these up...maybe I misread/misunderstood and locked it into memory? Well, that certainly changes my thinking on a 4L75e, considering since Chuck would rebuild my Lvl 4 to Lvl 7 for about half the cost. As much as I want to believe I'd never have worry again with the Lvl 7, I wouldn't be here talking about the 4L75e if I didn't have doubt. Time to get serious about the 4L80e conversion.

Thanks for the input...

No more putting off the inevitable...I have the dtr81 4l80e conversion crossmember & loop on the way, and tomorrow will call FLT for a 4L80e Level 4, and Precision Industries for a Vigilante triple disk. Thanks for the input guys, and have a great Thanksgiving.

Smart move.

I wished I had listened the first time someone told me "...just put an 80e in it....". I would have saved thousands.
