4L60E and a supercharger!
 
so i have a 2002 silvy 1500 5.3 l I have been putting money into restoring and have come a ways. I just purchased a TVS1900 and I will be making a custom throttle cable bracket to mount it. I just had my transmission go out on me (I knew it was bad when I bought it and got the price down for it)
and I had a GM remanufactured put in it like 200 miles ago..


2002 Silverado 1500
5.3L
KN cold air intake
high flow cats and si/do flowmaster super 10 (that I will be removing)
3.73 rear
4" lift kit and 35s.


would my stock reman. be good enough for a daily driver? or should I buy a deep pan and tranny cooler if I go stock?


I just replaced this tranny and im debating buying a lv4 from some reputable builder like FLT and doing the swap myself and selling my Reman. or just taking money and building my Reman as is..


what are suggestions? the supercharger is prob the last performance bit I will be doing. I may replace gaskets and valvetrain after awhile but nothing that should affect my HP/TQ.. maybe lol I say that now:burnout:

The 60e will have a limited life behind that combo, especially depending on your foot.

ALWAYS increase cooling and fluid capacity. without a doubt, even for an 80e

Regearing will help that trans survive. 4:56 will net a slightly better ratio than stock with 35s

Other than that, simply expect it to fail, eventually. Even built 60s will fail in the trucks, especially behind a blower. But you'll get a few years out of it if you dont drag race it every light.

I dont beat on my vehicles much. Occasionally ill get on it for a few seconds of fun. Im leaning towards just getting a lv4 4l60e from FLT and selling my reman. For about 11-1200

Lvl5 with billet planetarys - the 4 gear cast set fractures easy

Agree on gear change also

I would put a .500 Boost valve and A Vette servo in the Trans and let it eat. I did a M112 on an 07, headers, vinci cam, etc... Trans had 75k on it, its holding up great so far. We put a revmax stock size 2500 converter in it too. Stalled around 2800 with the blower. The Servo pin length needs to be properly set up. You cant just toss it in on a prayer.

Here is what I suggest you do.Transgo SK and a vette servo,stock trans tuning.The trans may just last,you sounds like you dont beat on it.If it does break go 4L80e

Who sells billet planetarys for 4L60e?

So basically you're saying even the best 4L60 that has any amount of power under any circumstances will fail? I myself am in the same boat right now and I'm looking to get a new transmission from flt or performabuilt. My only hang up is that everybody keeps suggesting 4l80s and I'm kind of lost to be honest

It all depends on the weight of your vehicle and the amount of power you have. I personally like 4l60e's BUT they just cant hold up well in 4k plus lb vehicles with a lot of power . A 4l60e rated at 800 hp will hold that power just fine in a 3000lb car. Putting that same trans in a truck / heavy rig is like throwing an extra 200 hp at it. The weight kills it.
I had a 4l60e hold for awhile with over 1k hp. It wasnt if it was going to fail, it was when. You can keep throwing all the expensive billet parts in it and then you will find the next weakest part. The post of 4 pinion planets being weak is false. If you set it up to shift crazy hard yeah, your going to break the planetaries. I have seen and broke more sets then you can believe. I only broke 1, yes only 1 set from overpowering it. At the track, 900ft lbs of torque in a 4500lb vehicle. Keep the shifts crisp but not hard, and keep some torque management in it.

A 4l80e isnt the solution for everyone, but if you like to just put it in and forget it, have the piece of mind knowing you don't have an egg behind your engine, its the way to go. People want to save you the headache and save you money too by suggesting the 80e .
