4L60E........no 3rd or 4th Gear

What was the problem?
I have the same problem with no solution. I have replaced all electrical, valve body, fluid, filter and still same thing. I have been told several times on-line that it is the clutch packs, but mine engages once a week or so and continues to work properly all day until the truck sits cold overnight. We hooked it to the computer while driving and it said everything was fine except for it taking 30 seconds to go from 2-3. This originally started while towing a trailer in 3rd(manual) with the tow button engaged. If I leave the button engaged it will slip in Drive after certain speed or RPM. Now I get 1,2, and high rev when it goes to 3rd unless I release the gas and re-apply. No 4th. Manual 3rd works and disengages after about 2 1/2 RPM. 3rd works downhill and slows me. Like I said, once in a while it works out of no where. I have to smog by the 30th and it will not pass if the transmission is failing. I read something about airing it. How do I do that?
Thanks in advance.

It's best if you start a new thread with your question, best not to bump threads that are more than 3 weeks old.

I just figured I would ask because it looks like this guys truck is running fine now but he did not say what out of all the thread reply was the solution. Starting a new thread will only get me several theories and troubleshoot procedures which I have already done.

I have had that problem with two Chevy trucks. You truck is in limp mode so it is an electrical problem. The ecm is catching a fault code and putting your truck in limp mode as a safety response so it does not damage your engine or tranny. It allows. . you ,second gear( you can run up to 40 mph so you can get home or to a shop to fix it. My friend had the same problem , he put a new tranny in and still did not have 3 Rd or4 the gear. Have the codes read and go from there

Basically your computer has received a code that is telling it that its Not safe to keep driving your vehicle because something is wrong .so the computer has killed the power to your transmission relay. .have your codes read and work on the codes that come up because your tbs and a couple of other sensors can go bad and put you in li!p mode. You need to check for worn or broken wires ,bad grounds, if it's a Chevy check the pink wire that goes from the inside fuse box to the one under the hood..that problem can also be cause by a bad or worn ignition module that not fully powering up everything, else I hope this has helped someone!
Tell yourself how to fix your own problem,
Tell someone how to fix their trans they had a problem with 8 years ago, OR
Tell someone how to fix their trans they had a problem with 16 years ago?
