4l60 to 4l70 swap

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, i have a 2001 silverado with a magnacharer that shredded the 4l60 in only 35,000 miles. I have a 4l70 out of a Trailblazer SS that i would like to swap in place of the 4l60. As far as i know the 4l70 will bolt in place of the 4l60, but I am unsure of other compatibility issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im almost positive it's not compatible, the 70s have some different sensors.

A 4l80e is your best bet,

It'll work fine, my 4L70e bolted up and works.

will it bolt up? yes it will
sensors are in different locations, so the wiring will have to be relocated..

I went from a stock 4L60e to a built 4L70e and havent had any problems and didnt have to relocate anything. All I did was bolted it up and plugged it in. My truck is a 04 so I'm not sure if theres a difference.

GMCtrk,

I'm pretty sure the only difference in wiring is the input speed sensor. Which wouldn't be used in a 4l60e application.

Well after removing both transmissions I pulled the tail cones and found that the output shaft on the 4l70 was different than my 4l60. It was much shorter than mine and had no wheel on the shaft for the sensor in my tail cone either. Other than that the cases look pretty much the same. The trans was out of an all wheel drive Trailblazer SS, some local guys told me that after removing the transfer case and tailcone that i would just have to bolt up my 2 wheel drive cone, so I was pretty bummed to see the output shafts being different. Not sure what direction i will go next.

FWIW your gonna shred the 70 as well...There's really not much difference between the 2...Many of stock tbss's have ate 4l70e's
