If i swap my nv3500 out for a 700r4 is there anything i need to do to keep it from blowing up?

Year/model/engine would help, but regardless I would say you need to wire up a lockup kit for the converter. You'll also need to be 100% sure you adjust the throttle valve cable correctly or the trans will roast itself in a hurry. Depending on your vehicle specs you may not have a spot for the TV cable to attach on the throttle body since it was a manual truck originally, I have seen some with and some without, if it's a TBI engine sometimes it's as easy as bolting the stud into the crank arm on the TBI.

For example here's one without the TV cable stud (bottom empty hole), just the cruise and throttle cable. This one is in a 94 with the 4L60E so that's why it doesn't have the stud, but I've seen manual trucks come the same way. Some were a rivet/pressed in style, others bolted in.
