Default 2005 Sierra suspension ?

Hey guys, I just got an 05 Sierra CC 4wd. Everything is bone stock right now and I plan on making a few small changes.

I wanna lower the rear to get rid of the rake, will removing the rear block suffice? Or will I also need 2" shackles? I'm not going to do anything up front. I plan on upgrading to a 305/50/20 from the stock 275/55/20.

I also need new shocks badly. I'm leaning towards Bilstein 4600's, but i'm open to pretty much any shock within reasonable price.

I will be frequently towing a 5000lb trailer so if there's anything else you'd suggest, feel free.

Thanks all.

The lift block is only 1.25 inches, so if you want it lower than that you need shackles. The rear end can be 2-3in higher than the back in some vehicles so get your tape measure out to see what you need to do to level it.

OK thanks. I'll probably plan on getting shackles.

Will the shocks I get need to be for a lowered truck? Seems like belltech and bilstein are the two popular ones on here. I had 5100's on a jeep before. Is there that much of a difference between the belltech and bilstein to matter?

Here's how it sits now

I didn't get new shock specific to a lowered truck on my two previous vehicles. I can't give you an opinion on those shocks you listed. I run stock AC delco struts or on a truck I lowered 2/4 I ran lowering shocks from Mcgaughtys and they were good.

They do sell shock bracket extenders that help out though, I'd look into those so you can keep the stock length shock and the shock you want to run.

  • I don't mind getting drop shocks. There's just so many options it's difficult to pick haha

If all you’re doing is removing the 4WD lift blocks and installing shackles, you could just order 2WD rear shocks then. That’s what I did and it worked fine for me.

if your towing a lot i would look into air springs for the rear, they really help to keep the truck from sagging and makes the ride so much nicer when the trailer is being towed

Looks to me like the front sags. The rear height is about right. Pretty typical.

If all you want is to level it, crank the keys for the fronts. Might need new keys if that won't get it far enough. Again, typical. Mine did; took 1½" lift keys to bring the front back up to level.

I'll be doing coilovers in the front eventually I think.

I don't have any plans on lifting it or leveling it at all. Only removing the rear block and possibly new drop shackles.

What shocks are you guys using for stock height or just a mild drop? I'm looking between the bilstein 4600, bilstein HD, and belltech's. But i'm open to pretty much anything within reasonable price.

Thanks.

get rid of the rake
is the same thing as

leveling it
"Levelling" in this case is just a shorter word for "restoring stock height in the front to match the stock height in the rear when the front has sagged more than the rear". Stock, your truck had little or no "rake".

I have the 4600s on my Av, which is the HD. Seem pretty decent, although they're getting around to needing replacement... probably 120,000 miles. That's coil springs in the rear though, where you have leaf; not sure how different they are in this matter. You wouldn't want something that made it ride like a cattle truck or something, probably.
