Default 2000 14 bolt light duty....

Just picked one up today @ LKQ. (40% off sale) I want to install this in my 2001 1/2 ton. I have already done the SUV rotor/caliper swap. Everything seems fairly straight forward, but I am slightly preplexed on the brakes. I want to reuse my SUV rotors and calipers, and see conflicting things about spacers being required. The donor truck was a 2000 Silverado 2500 non HD 2WD, LQ4/80E, factory rear disc brakes. I did not take the 8 lug rotors or the calipers. But the caliper brackets are still intact.

Also, axles? I see some saying to use 88-94 axles, and some saying axles from a 96-up 2500 series van.

I think you need GMT400 14bolt 6 lug axles from a 4x4. Vans are too narrow.

Cant help you on the brakes, I'm sorry

Official 14 Bolt 9.5 SF Truck Thread

Just click that sticky right at the top of the forum lol. It gives all the details on what axles ( 6 ug 88 to 98 4x4 9.5's) rotors to use ( off a 6 lug 2500 series van) and just reuse the rear calipers off of the truck you took the diff from. Just sell or shelve the suv rotors and calipers you have.

That's just a Yukon replacement axle for the 88 to 98 SF 9.5" 6 lug 14 bolt in a 4x4. If you want new axles you could get those but at the same time a person can just go to the boneyard and take a pair of shafts from a wrecked truck.

I read it, I guess I missed where someone tried to do exactly what I am attempting to do. I saw where people were converting drum rears. I left the calipers at the yard along with the rotors. I guess I am going to have to take a rotor and caliper off of my truck and see what works/doesn't work.

In order for it to work you will need to make new flanges to mount the 1500 series Suv brakes. The brake offset is different as well as the bolt pattern on the 2000-2500 rear end. See the one I built for Evil GMC. I hear it's still out there somewhere and occasionally hear rumors about it. I believe it's in the Georgia area.

I saw that, excellent work. I dug deeper into the threads last night. It looks like the easiest route is: 88-98 4wd axles, 03+ van rotors, and the 2500 calipers. I do not plan on installing this rear right away, I will just gather parts and get my use out of the current brakes on the truck. My parts list is getting longer... 4.10 gears, posi, install/bearing kit, axles, brakes, conversion u joint, B&M diff cover.

I have one from a suburban. I plan to work on it soon... I just need to order the rotors, E-brake cables, and a new master Cylinder.

I have an 06 with drums...

Parts have started to arrive... I ordered axles for a 97 K1500, rotors for an 04 1500 express van, calipers & pads for a 2000 2500 truck - like what originally came on this rear axle. And a set of spring perches, going to torch off the current perches so it doesn't raise my truck an inch. Waiting for my gears, posi, install kit - got that from Ron's Machining. Most likely going to do axle bearings and seals as well.
