So are you saying that you set the pinion depth to what was specified by the manufacturer, checked it with marking compound, saw that it was too deep, but still ran it?

I would trust marking compound more than some numbers...

backlash was .010, reseting it now at .005! There was some wear on it already, and i cant find the papers that came with it, but i recall it saying .006 - .008 back lash so i set it at .007 and it wore to .010 within 300 miles, so i hope .005 is good.

Also removed the seals and bearings and cleaned the axle tubes, man there was some shavings in there, cleaned everything with gas and electrical contact cleaner, some orange junk came off the carrier bearings we had just put on.

ok so now the gears were checked and pinion was still at 2.513 and backlash is set to .006, valvoline 80/90 oil, and very very clean housing. I didnt get a pic of the wipe pattern but its dead on, and yet still a whole lot of noise........... getting very aggrivated at this point!!!!!!! Could the trutrac possibly be doing this?
Axles and bearings were in great shape.

I don't know the answer to this question because after more than three months I have still not installed my 4.56's.........

On the question about the true trac I do not believe that from the way the diff is designed everything when driving forward rotates together so nothing locker wise is "working" just rolling together.

The noise isn't from the truetrac, it's from the gears. If you were driving on them while setup incorrectly(which is what I gather from your previous posts), then they already have a bad pattern worn into them. Even resetting them to better specs with a good pattern will not quiet them down.

no see they were setup correctly, just wore out of spec within 300 miles. wipe pattern after inspection from first install on the brand new 4.88's was good.

The first 200 miles were dead silent. Guess im just goin to run them and get ready to buy a new set... i think the set i have was bad from the start, but who knows!!
