Yeah I think that sounds better than trying to do it myself, I would’ve had to have a buddy who welds give me a hand but are you certain on the master cylinder? Brakes are something I don’t like taking chances with

The drum master will apply more pressure to the disc in the rear and cause them to prematurely over heat.
Look up a 2010 with Disc brake and get whatever similar options you have. It takes 20 min to change out maybe 30 if you bench bleed it first.

If the donor is the same type of configuration, maybe see if they still have the drive shaft.

In a panic brake situation, yes I agree. But with ABS and normal driving, not something I would be concerned with.

Actually they can lock up under hard braking. I have seen it on one swap. He also ate rear pads up too.

I’ve got two little girls that ride in my truck a significant amount of time and the seller had the original master for 50 bucks so I’m gonna grab that too. Worth it just for the peace of mind. They also have the original drive shaft as well which I’m gonna grab.

I picked up the 14 bolt from the local saia terminal yesterday and got to the business of breaking her down in earnest today. Lots of rust. Not gonna lie I’m a bit intimidated by the project now that I’ve got it in front of me but from personal experience those are usually the best ones. I’m set on swapping in the dual piston gmt 800 rear calipers, I’m assuming I’d use the gmt 800 rotors? Anyone with any experience on that swap or the 14 bolt swap in general please chime in. Also haven’t been able to find anything on how to swap out bearings and seals on these semi floaters only the full float. Basically before I end up putting her in I’m going to do a full rust removal, primer and paint, add ss brake lines, change bearing and seals (and also check on the wear on the axles themselves while I’m at it) add the dual pistons previously mentioned and from the looks of it I’m probably going to change out the backing plates and the yoke as well for good measure. Just to be clear this is a 14 bolt 9.5 ring with 4.10 gears and the disc brakes. I’m not even going to attempt doing the front diff swap myself and already have a shop lined up for that work.

Anybody know how to figure out what parking brake cables you need for this swap? Have one in. 4 door (crew cab) 2wd short bed, Parking brake cables from the donor truck are too long, as are the ones that came out of the drum brake rear. Anybody know what to look at online to find the right part number cable? 143" wheelbase.

Here’s a vin from the driveshaft I got that came off a 1500 14 bolt semi float with the 6 speed (opt myc) you could just plug this vin in on one of the gm parts sites and see which e brake cable it recommends. Hope this helps
