Default 10 bolt 8.6 gmt800 vs gmt900 need to swap carriers

Not interested in swaping axle shafts, just the carrier and r&p. I cant tell by looking at the spiders or carrier so this is what i observed. The 07 axle shafts have a thicker diameter than the shafts I have from a 2002 silverado and the 2003 tahoe. the axle shafts from the hoe are also shorter than my 07 axle shafts. Probably cause it was an suv or 4x4?

Can I take the spider gears from the hoe and put them in my 07 axle? I lost a spider from the original open carrier so I hope I can use open carrier with spiders and r&p in my 07 axle. Both carriers have one small/one big window.

You can swap the spider gears as a set, but why not just use the whole carrier with ring and pinion???

That's what I'd like to do and guess I did'n't clearly convey lol.

I Just looked at noticed a different casting number on the carrier.

2007: 1073
2003: 7875

When I was looking for spider gears I looked into which years were compatible and some sources said there was a change in 09 for the 8.6.

After investigating once again after I saw the casting numbers, the Yukon gear web says the following:

GM 8.6" Rear, '99-'08 Differential Spider Gears & Spider Gear Sets Auto Parts: YPKGM8.5-P-30, YPKGM8.6-S-30V2, YPKGM8.6-S-30V3,

THe one at the bottom ending in 30v3 for 07 and up are sopposed to be the ones for my truck.

I guess as ling as the axle shafts from the 07 and 03 have thesame diameter at the splines, spline count and spline length, the carrier, r&p from the 03 will swap into the 07?

The carrier from the 03 should swap right in. Just use all the bearings and shells from the 03 unit in your 07 unit. Measure the pinion depth and the back lash in the 03 before removing to install in the 07. You want it to match so it doesn't whine...

crappers I already pulled the carrier from the 03. The pinion nut was removed already before I bought the axle so I don't know if the pinion depth would be accurate?

For the axles shafts the 03 tahoe and 07 silverado spline length, diameter at spline and where the axle rides at the outer axle bearing are the same. only difference is the length of the axle.

I have another set of axle shafts from the 00 or 02 silverado gmt800 in the attic. Thinking of keeping the axle shafts from the 07 since they are thicker and using the other silverado axle shafts for this build granted they are the same length.
