07 Denali AWD to 2wd?

I just bought an 2007 yukon Denali. When a major AWD component goes out I'm switching to 2wd and ripping all the AWD crap out. Truck has 113k miles. I cover 25k miles a year. How long you think the AWD will last before something gives out? For 2wd conversion all I need is front frame crossmember, 2wd transmission mount and 2wd spindles with 2wd driveshaft?

warriorpluto 03-16-2017 10:35 PM

Oh and of course 2wd 6l80e?

It "should" last a long while, the only common failure on any of these trucks is the front diff eating itself. Overall it's a cheaper fix than replacing the transmission to a 2wd unit.

I don't know the exact part list you'd need.

I realize 07 is slightly different but maybe this will help

All those conversion parts will add up. Probably just cheaper to fix the AWD or just swap out for a 4WD transfer case if you hate AWD that much.

is it hard to take off? The whole front differential will need to be swapped?

Also these parts would be cheap for me. Several gmt900 in my local uautopullit.

Have you considered just welding the transfer case and then removing your front axle and drive shaft? You can put a cap on the front DS input to keep dirt out.

Other option is to get a new tranny and crossmember.

The front axle issue they are talking about is that the carrier bearings go bad. It is an easy fix.

How about sell it and get a 2wd yukon then upgrade interior parts to Denali parts.

ALOT Cheaper and doesnt completely RUIN a Denali.

Why did you even buy the denali if you dont want AWD, thats just about as tarded as it comes.

The purchase price of a clean denali vs a clean yukon is substantial. so much so the difference in price could buy a pull out 6.0 and wrap or replace all the dash bezels to Denali style PLUS catskin wrap the seats.
Far less work, upscales value of the Yukon vs Descaling denali value.
I dont understand.

My prices were as follows, you naysayers try to keep up.

New:
Built 2wd 4l60e : $1k
4" .125 New DS: $425
Crossmember modification: $0
Circle D converter (not required): $450

Sold:
4wd 4L60e: $350
AWD diff: $350
Front diff and both shafts: $250
Front axles: Trash $0

Variances:
Stock 2wd DS can be bought for $250 (for my model)
Trans crossmember could be bought for $50
Could have went with a used 2wd trans possibly cutting the price in half.
Can use the stock converter

Do the math, I completed the swap, it can be done for next to nothing out of pocket depending on what exact parts you select. I chose to upgrade some so I footed the extra bill. The point is it's not an unreasonable option to consider. I got rid of both sets of hard lines under the engine (oil and trans cooler) and rerouted the exhaust and it is amazing what you can see and work on under this truck now, its a thing of beauty.

I'm located in Louisiana. So no need for AWD. I got this one cheap at 8k.

I am very surprised that you got 350 for the tranny and 350 for the diff. I can't even give my diff away and 200 is asking a lot for a 200k+ mile tranny.

01ssreda4 04-09-2017 11:25 AM

I had 3 guys that specifically wanted it. The transfer case sold within 2 weeks to a buddy who was buying it for a future build. The trans sold in a month to a jeep guy and he specifically didnt care about the mileage, he just wanted a verified running unit for his initial mock up and testing of an LS swap jeep, and the front diff guy wanted an extra diff to thrash on for racing and I threw in the DSs too. The diff took 6 months to sell.

Wish I had know. I got some money out of my old tranny but I ended up sending my diff to the junk yard. There was nothing wrong with it but I didn't have any use for it and too hard to sell. No room to keep. Didn't need any of the parts.
