04 GMC Yukon Denali Cracked Differential
Well the inevitable happen and found out I had a cracked front differential. The crack is on the passenger cv axle tube or housing however it's called.
I have called a few junkyards with no luck on finding a AWD diff.
Is it possible to replace JUST the passenger axle tube from that of a 4WD front differential. The diff is from a 02 Avalanche. The only thing I noticed was that the axle tube has the 4wd selector on the tube and the AWD does not have one.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Its is my only vehicle and I'm down to checking the diff fluid everyday.

It might be made of aluminum but I am not 100% sure. I did take it to a muffler shop for the intentions of getting it welded but the guy said no cant do. It wont weld.
Here is a sample but mine is actually in 2 pieces not just cracked.

There Cast Aluminum.
Muffler shops usually are not equipped to weld on aluminum as most exhaust systems are Steel or Stainless Steel.
If it broke in two, there is most likely internal damage as something bound up.
You can order just the outside housing since it bolts to the case.
The axle housing and shaft for a 4x4 is different. I don't believe it will work in an AWD set up.

I was hoping for this not to be.
I have tried calling dealerships and there all on back order. Closes one is Miami and its around $220-240 shipped for just the housing. Local junkyards wont part-out just the housing.

Thanks 1FastBrick. I checked the classifieds section and found just waiting on the response.
I have tried a few GM dealers and price with shipping is around $210-260 but some are defected parts from the seal that goes at the other end.
We will see what comes up here soon. In the meantime I am looking into getting a 03-06 Silverado or a 04-06 Avalanche as a daily with the 5.3 of course.
