Out with the old, in with the new...
Had a custom drive shaft put in from Wenco Yesterday. Thanks Eric (1slowz71) for showing me this place. The old drive shaft was rubbing on a cross member under the bed of the truck after I did my 2/4 drop a year ago. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten. Tundra aluminum drive shafts are not that thick and i had at least a 1/8" grove.

Any one know if this will help/hurt performance or will it be the same? |
Damn!!!! You almost lost that thing! :eek2: Im not sure if it would make much of a difference. I know a lighter drive shaft works similar to lighter wheels in the way of rotational mass but I have never looked into it much or ridden before and after a major change. I would almost be tempted to cut it open just to see how much material you actually had left. :eek2:

Yeah I guess the bigger the diameter the thinner the wall can be. That's why Toyota uses 5" diameter aluminum tubing. The guy at wenco said I was about 1-2 good hits from snapping that sucker. It also had a slight wobble on the freeway that caused a little vibration.

Man i hadent see this ! But man that new driveshaft looks freaken great i'm glad it all worked out for you jason , i think i'm gonna need 1 perty soon as well , i was actully shock at how in expensive it was !

Yeah man, it was actually a little less than what they quoted me. $357.58 out the door, install included. I can only imagine how much Toyota would have charged me.

pretty strong stock driveshaft if you ask me. A gm driveshaft would have blown up, and taken everything out...

Is the place you had it done in LA or further south? I'm going to start looking at getting a new driveshaft and a tune, as well as a couple bolt-on if I can swing it. Less than $400 for a tough new driveshaft (installed!) doesn't sound bad at all, especially if it lets me ditch the speed limiter and really get into the throttle :devil:

yeah, true. Whats funny is TRD sells a drop kit too. I wonder how their kit differs from the McGaughys kit. I would imagine that it would have the same problem hitting the cross member.
