2005 Honda Civic wheel humming sound
Hey folks,, along with a few gm trucks, I also have a civic car as the title shows. I bought it when it had 6k miles , and i couldnt be happier with the reliability. However, around 50k miles ago, i started hearing a humming sound (i believe its coming from the wheels or tires). Recently, when i apply the brakes it sounds more intense,,and the humming sound starts at around 40 mph. My cousin recently rode with me and he claims its the wheel bearings. Has anyone experienced such encounters? I now have 147k miles on it...and i've never fixed or replaced anything except tires and a few air filters... thanks in advance.

Its a wheel bearing more than likely. Narrow it down to which wheel its coming from. Its a simple fix. Just remove the hub and press out the old bearing. Take a cutoff wheel and cut the bearing race off the back side of the hub. Press in the new bearing but make sure that when you do the magnetic side faces the inside of the car. Being a Honda tech I see people put wheel bearings in backwards all the time. When you do that you not only get to buy a new bearing but you get to replace the wheel sensor too.

for sure it's the wheel bearing , i just replaced the wheel hub assembly on my 2000 Honda civic, and it had the exact same symptoms that you are describing. after i went ahead and installed the new wheel hub assembly the noise/humming/rattling went away. hope this helps you out.
