is the block hurt? why not rebuild your current 4.8 with the stock crank and some forged rods and pistons? it's a little more money, but better peace of mind for how hard you are pushing that little motor. hell, bore it and throw in a LS1 piston for a little more cube with the same 4.8 stroke that seems to work so well.

block is toast. so if all 4.8 are the same i wont bother looking for the 05 -06 ill just look for lowest miles at best price.

I should have specified, LS2 style rods, not LS2 rods. Figured you guys would assume thats what I meant lol... The newer 4.8 does indeed have the beefy rods though, mine does...

That sucks about your motor. I've been wanting to turbo my 4.8 4x4 for years after seeing quik and foose do theirs. These motors can take a beating that's for sure.

Try bleeding off the the two rear ports on the heads while your at it. Allow the steam to go some where instead of sitting there not cooling anying thing.

for the broken rear pistons not for the bent rods.

^^^this. When mine went it looked the same way. I ended up going with a 6.0, forged Wiseco's, and Compstar rods. It will take a lot more, and if for some reason it does let loose, the piston won't turn into an explosion. The forged piston will hold together. You won't have to buy a whole new engine. You could basically match your piston weight, and put a new one in.

This!! Need to have the steam vents all vented and returning back to he radiator or water pump. That may have prevented those pistons from going. Venting the steam ports helps to reduce hot spots on those back cylinders
