is the block hurt? why not rebuild your current 4.8 with the stock crank and some forged rods and pistons? it's a little more money, but better peace of mind for how hard you are pushing that little motor. hell, bore it and throw in a LS1 piston for a little more cube with the same 4.8 stroke that seems to work so well.

I should have specified, LS2 style rods, not LS2 rods. Figured you guys would assume thats what I meant lol... The newer 4.8 does indeed have the beefy rods though, mine does...

Try bleeding off the the two rear ports on the heads while your at it. Allow the steam to go some where instead of sitting there not cooling anying thing.

This!! Need to have the steam vents all vented and returning back to he radiator or water pump. That may have prevented those pistons from going. Venting the steam ports helps to reduce hot spots on those back cylinders
