Default Whippled 408 thoughts

I have my own thoughts about what I'd change on this setup, but I'd appreciate some input from you guys as well. Kind of a "self-check" if you know what I mean.

A friend as a truck that he feels isn't performing as well as it should. Here's the details, feel free to ask for more info if I've left something out.

Truck: 2002 GMC Denali pickup
Engine: 408 stroker 4.030 bore, 4.0 stroke
Pistons: -12cc Wiseco forged
Rods: Callies Compstar
Crank: Callies
Heads: stock 317's
Valve Springs: Comp 918 beehives
Cam: Comp 228/228 .588/.588 115 LSA
Rocker arms: stock
Head gaskets: "thin cometics" guessing .040" thickness, but unsure.
Compression ratio: believed to be 9.5-1

Intake manifold: stock truck
Throttle body: stock 76mm
Exhaust: stock manifolds, cats deleted, dual 2.5 into muffler, single 3" out, full length exhaust, stock exit location.

Power adder: Whipple side mount, 2.3 liter, 10 psi at shift points
Intercooler: None
Computer: Whippletronics delete, HPTuners MAF tune
Injectors: 60#'ers

Transmission: 4L60E, locally built
Converter: modified stock, very tight, estimated 2000 stall speed
Axle ratio: 4.10 AWD
Tire size: 265/70R16 on stock wheels

The truck runs really strong, it's fun to drive. But at the track, it won't break into the 12's. He's watching my 150K mile 5.3 with Radix run low 12's and knows I'm trying to break 11's, and knows his combo isn't right(has more potential). He's asked for my help, and before I spend his money, I want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Thanks guys.

your stall is worth 3-4 tenths on him and he definitly needs long tube headers 1 7/8 .

He is also a decent amount heavier then you also. Headers, Stall and Meth. Forget the intercooler on the side mount.

A bigger throttle body would probably help a bunch.

Not without basically making a new blower inlet. Stock whipple inlets do not leave much room to hog them out.

Yep...should have kept my trap shut. Does it blow or suck through the t'body? Don't even know enough about that setup to be semi dangerous

If your buddy decides to intercooler which btw. I would recommend going A2W.Not too sure why Pat says intercooling is a bad idea.Unless its because,of the tunning difficulties he ran into using a A2A.Which can be a hassle but,I know is possible. So like I was sayin if hes interested in intercooling I have a lower Whipple blower manifold already setup with a 3" outlet welded on.I also have a fabricated T.B. inlet setup for a Whipple blower. The opening for the T.B. is 96mm so plenty big for a 2.3l twinscrew.

A boosted 408 has to be pushing some serious air, so wouldn't stock manifolds be choking the crap out of it?

What does his truck 60'?
