Actually that is a good question. I shot an e-mail to Big Mike at Whipple asking him for dimensions or at least how much taller the 4.0l is over the 2.9l.

I am pretty sure it would fit in my truck as I did a 2" progressive body lift. Just not sure about a stocker.

Cool. Let us know what he says.

I got a response from Dennis in the Whipple Tech Department. First, the picture I posted previously of the 4.0l turns out to be a prototype with a jack shaft that never went into production. The new production model is a rear inlet (non-jack shaft) on the driver side.

Here is what Dennis says about the dimensions:

"The 4.0 is a rear inlet vers the 2.9 front feed. The 4.0 is about 13" from the flat part of the valley. The rear inlet wraps around to the drivers side and flush with the back of the block.

See pic attached for example."

It looks bad-to-the-bone to me. But not sure about the brake booster and cooling fan clearance. But it appears the driven accessories work off their original pulleys and that is very cool. The SC drive pulleys and idler are all out front with short belts. My 2.9l slips even thou I have an 8 rib setup partly I believe is due to a very long belt that is shared with the accessories.

I say go for it Pat and work out all the bugs for us.

I dont think that blower is even close to fitting... even with a body lift. It comes way too far back and is too high. You would need to hack your entire cowl up. It's very telling that not a single person has done it yet.

I have seen pics of the 3.3 lysholm in a truck... let me see if i can dig them up.

Maybe nobody has tried. I don't think height is an issue in my truck especially with my HD hood. The only issue may be the cowl as you said but a creative person can deal with that. There is also a trick I have used in the past of lowering the engine with custom engine mounts. Here is a pic of the 2.9l going into my truck from four years ago.

The one thing I didn't ask Whipple is if the 4.0l has a manifold for cathedral heads. If it shares the lower manifold with the 2.9l, then it would.

There wouldn't be problem with the lower manifold clearance as the 2.9l is already pretty much flush to the back of the block as shown on mine below.

that's what i was looking at doing in my car when i was looking at phenolic spacers for my blower. i've only got room to do a 1/2" spacer if i use some .3" lowering mounts.

I need to figure out if a big whipple will fit with the rear inlet, I also caught myself looking at a 3.6 Kenne Bell but wasn’t really happy with my last Kenne Bell experience. Whipple seems to be supporting the LS pretty well right now maybe I can sort something out.

Quick Reply: Whipple that’s larger then 2.9 for Cathedral heads.
