Default What weight of oil is everyone running ?

Just rebuilt my turbo L83. Stock rods, diamond pistons, comp cam springs, push rods, lifters and custom cam. Turbo is a borg S369sxe. Changed oil to non synthetic 10w40. Thinking about just going to rotella 15-40.. Just wondering what other guys are using and have had luck with.

That better be sarcastic, because thats bullshit.

5.3: Mobil 1 5/30
L67 (Buick): Mobil 1 10/30
MR2 Turbo: Rotella T6 5/40
22R Crawler: Rotella 15/40 (leaks like a bitch lol)
RMZ-250: Just switched from OEM Suzuki 10/40 to T6 5/40

Dont know what to hit the 408 with. Probably T6 as well.

The only decent justification I ever heard for this(and I do think it can be real in some cases) is "gunk" from traditional oil built up around seals, gaskets, etc. and in other places can be scrubbed away by the (supposedly) better detergents in synthetic and cause slight leaks over time or even dislodge chunks that can clog lifters and similar items.

I've never directly experienced the above issues though.

5W30 in all my LS motors.
Usually cheapest parts store brand, gets drained pretty frequently... 3000 to 3500 miles.

Went on a 10,000 mile road trip 6 months ago ( Texas and back, scenic route through 11 states, 2 provinces)... Ran Mobil 1 synthetic for that adventure, oil did not get visibly discolored, nor did the 4.8 consume ANY oil.

VR1 20w50 in my 5.3 with 7875 turbo.

I tried every other oil under the sun but they all broke down within 500 miles or so due to the heat (from not having an oil cooler). The 20w50 didnt break down and supposedly the higher zinc content is beneficial.

Oil Should be chosen with bearing clearance and oil temps in mind.
I run Mobil1 5w30 in my 408, works well for my cleances and I run a oil cooler and oil temp gauge to keep an eye on it
