Vortech Impeller Seal
Has anyone ever replaced the Impeller seal on a vortech unit. I don't have any issue with pulling the seal out, it's just how to get the impeller off without damaging it (I don't have access to a press)?
I've had a bit oil puddling up in the intake tube (maybe a teaspoon every 3000) for quite a while now and have finally decided to do something about it. I already have the seal (it's not the pcv system, I've already tested that). I've had the V2 on for about 70,000 miles now (I was the guinea pig truck for the 05 and up supercharger setups @ vortech) and the bearings are still good, it just the impeller seal is leaky. Try this thread, I believe the info you are looking for is in there. A few Vortech techs came into the thread and tried to scare anyone from a DIY attempt. :lol: |
If they are anything like prochargers they have the wheel pressed on to it.. I got mine off by freezing the shaft, heating the wheel a bit, then used tools to pull the wheel off.. even with the new seal it still let some oil out.. However if you call them ask them if it is normal, they might say it is.. My procharger did it from the time i bought it( used) The techs told me, i spoke with more then one on a few diff occasions that some leaking may be normal, it would not be a warranty job.. Said some do it some do not.. The next Pc i bought had 3xxx miles on it, even it lets some oil out past the impeller shaft seal..

Luckly I had a jug of R12, so all I did was hook a hose to it, attached a air blower to the hose turn it upside down, let it blow down in the bolt hole on the shaft.. Procharger has a good double lip seal, but still leaks.. Lets not forget that there is some pressure that builds up in the head unit, inturn helps push oil out..

Would CO2 get it cold enough? I know you can buy a 20oz paintball tank for a few bucks and rig up a similar setup
