Volant Intake or Open Element Filter?
Just wanting to get some opinions on which type of intake is producing the best results for all you magnacharger guys out there? The closed box style like the Volant or an open element filter? It's for my MP112.

Subscribing, I need to know this as well.
I have the Volant installed and will be adding a Maggie early next year. |
I was running the K&N system for a while and finally after 2 years, i killed the maf with oil. I never oiled the filter once in those 2 years but it eventually got on there some how. I switched to the Volant and have never had a problem since. The power core filter is the way to go in my opinion.

I say go with the Volant. With the 112 it will help to keep iat's down which is always a good thing but especially true with the 112.

My volant didn't fit my radix well so I went back to the stock with a K&N filter.
I installed a 3 1/2" PVC flange out the bottom of the intake box and ran a flex-haust hose down to the bottom of of the wheel well/valance for cold air intake. Looks stock when you open the hood and much more cost effective as well. |
Will the Volant boxed air filter style intake flow as well as an open element intake filter? I am more concerned with air flow than intake temps.
|
the volant flows plenty of air.....trust me. with the 112 you want to eliminate as much under hood temps as possible. the k&n is just sucking in hot air from the engine compartment. You should be concerned with intake temps. If the intake temps are too high the pcm will pull timing which means less power. The mp112 has a tendancy to be a heat soak anyway so try everything you can to counter this.

volant's extra tube is stupid expensive... $180. not anywhere near worth the coin IMO for the MAYBE couple horses you might get from it.

I vote volant, I have read so many forums, guys love design and gains from the inclosed filter, for the 112s high iat's, i am sure no one likes a heat soaked element. Cooler the better...
