Tried something today.
Recap: truck smokes on cold startup. Smokes within 1-2 mins of startup, after pipes get hot enough to burn oil. Truck will continue to smoke until truck is driven. Hot starts don't smoke.
Pulled the feed line from the turbo and capped the line. Started the truck up and let it run for a few minutes. While running, I manually feed the turbo oil through the feed port.
NO OIL!
Now what? Bad turbo that is brand new, jeeeezzz!!!

What brand turbo is that^
I think im gonna go with the cold start small oil leakage theory. Like spoolin said, a turbo has to be spinning for the "seals" to work properly.
And fyi, there are several guys on tech that have to do weird things to not get smoke. Some guys run certain oils, some guys clock the turbo just a hair etc.

It took approximately 50 miles before it stopped. It was mainly smoking under the hood and I'm assuming some of that smoke was caused by the wrap I put on the hot pipes as well. I would contact the manufacture and see what they have to say about it.

I have never had a turbo apart to know what the seals look like, are made of, etc so this might be a complete fail. But tell me this: if the seal around the turbine housing is defective in some way, couldn't it possibly be contracting a very small amount once the turbo cools down, in return allowing a small amount of oil to pass along the seal when the engine is started cold and the oil system is pressurized? Then once the turbo heats up after a couple of minutes, the heat would cause the seal to expand again, in return sealing off the oil leak causing the smoking issues while the turbo is hot. Someone exploit my theory lol
