Turbo causing smoke?

Im getting exhaughst smoke at idle. I can smell burning oil when driving, and if I idle more than 1- 2 minutes I get a misqueto fog. Is my turbo bad, or do I need to restrict the oil flow a little?

What oil are you running?? make sure to run a 5w-30, Its cold out buddy!

Sounds to me like you need to restrict the oil flow to the turbo. Too much oil in the turbo and it will leak past the end seals. Normally the turbo is fine. Do you have a return pump and is it working if you do? This can be another source of trouble if the oil is building up in the return line to the engine. Cold weather and thicker oil make this problem worse and will bring any shortcomings in your oiling system to light. Hopefully the fix will be relatively easy and inexpensive.

It can be a number of different things. I've been chasing a random oil smoke problem for awhile too.

Assuming it's your turbo, it can be due to bad seals, insufficient oil drain size, oil backup in the drain, too much pressure from the feed line, or insufficient crankcase ventilation.

hold off on the restrictor for a moment.

Take a look at your drain hose, and make sure it is not kinked or anything. The line from front valve cover where did you run it? Got any picks.

Another thing is once oil gets into the system, it will take a while to burn out.

Im running mobil1 5W30 synthetic. It is cold out and my hose has a slight kink but not bad. Im running 5/8 hose to the oil pan. I will try to get some picts later. Im thinking about trying 0/30, and re routing the hose. I don't think it is the turbo, because it only has less than 500 miles on it.

Follow your drain line and remove any kinks or werd bends in it.

is the oil going to have a hard time draining out if the centersection is at that much of an angle from vertical?

The angle probably isn't helping much. Im going to get a 45 on the drain and position the turbo completly vertical.
