sts turbo high egt help help help

I have a 2011 silverado 5.3 flex fuel with an sts turbo. I tow with it set to 5 psi regular driving at 10psi. When towing im at constant 1500 to 1600 egt temp. My system is intercooled. Does anyone have any tips for lowering my egt's. maybe a restricted exhaust. Fuel ratio? Anything? I might end up having to go with meth injection but I really don't want it to cone to that. Thanks for any tips.

Whats your AFR when the EGTs get that high?
Also low timing can heat them up a good bit.

Well your intercooler will not have an affect on EGTs but your air/fuel could. Do you have a wideband? If your tune is rich then any unburnt fuel (from the combustion chamber) is getting burnt inside the hot exhaust pipes raising your EGTs. I'm not sure but I would say your numbers are pretty normal though. If I'm just hot rodding my truck or driving 70-75 down the highway I see 1200 on my gauge (my EGT probe is about 12" behind the turbo in the DP).

I agree what's the Afr and timing? My probe is about 3" from the exhaust port and I don't see those kinds of number. When first started all this I did but my timing was way low and my Afr was real rich. Part throttle low low boost doesn't need 11:1 Afr I run about 13:1 in that area and it richens up as boost goes up.

Meth is not a good idea for a towing application. Start by increasing your timing. Bigger turbo exhaust housings also lower EGTs.

Where is your egt probe mounted?

More timing in lower boost area will lower you EGT's as long as you don't get excessive with it. Also, how much are you towing? What's the WHOLE setup? The truck is Flex fuel, how are you tuned? Can you run E85 while towing? That with more timing will lower EGT's also.

My set up is an sts turbo.. im running 5 psi to tow with and 10 psi regular driving. I did a custom front mount intercooler becsuse I didn't like where sts mounted their intercooler. Im running 50lb injectors with stock fuel pump. I was told the flex fuel pump could support my system. I will not be running E85 ever. It is not accessible to me where I live. For the most part im towing a boat to lake powell and other times a horse trailer with two horses so im towing 4 possibly 5000lbs. My egt probe is between the cats and the manifolds. My new wide band air fuel ratio guage should be here tomorrow so I can give a better air fuel description soon. I did a test run tonight and my narrow band sensers said full throttle im at 11.3. At 50% throttle with 5 psi boost I was at 12.2. My timing at 50% throttle and 5 psi was 22 to 25. I'm worried im going to melt something in my engine and don't want that to happen. Thanks for the help guys.

Why is meth not good to tow. Lowers egt's lowers intake temps and helps prevent detination

You probe being infront of the Cats is why its reading so high im sure. If you moved it back closer to the turbo you might be suprised at the difference.
