Usually you only need to be worried about it unless you've been beating on the vehice pretty good. It's about preventing coking from having the oil sit in a hot center section of the turbo.

Mounting style doesn't matter. I've owned turbo cars/truck for over 10 years and never hard a problem. After some hard driving, I give it 1-2 minutes before shutting it down. Normal driving, just shut it off.

Been told newer production turbo cars don't need the cool down at all, but not sure on what models that includes. Hope this helps.

what this means is dont make a run and the turn the truck off right away. let it idle for a few minutes. this doesn't mean you need to let the truck idle after driving it home from work. unless you were boosting into your driveway. just driving normaly is cooling it off.

Yes both answers were very helpful, I wasn't sure at first but I understand what yall meen now.

So if I am beatin on it hard for a while, a nice slow 5 minute drive around the neighborhood or sitting in the driveway in park at idle for a few minutes will suffice. Good to know, I've never had FI but I would hate to ruin it the moment I do :-/

This only applys to Turbo's correct, S/C's do no have this problem right?

Great thread!!! I would like to add one thing towards the cons for the Magnacharger. I have the M112 blower and have been running a 2.8" pulley (9-10psi depending on time of year) since around 70,000 miles (now I have 165,000) and I have ZERO belt slip. On my second belt just because it felt like the right thing to do -- lol, but the old one wasn't giving me any issues. I run a Goodyear Gatorback fwiw which does work awesome.

Back in my mustang days, I used to run 15psi with a vortech and the gatorback worked pretty good. The Gates belt....not so much.

Great thread again----very informative and helpful---Thanks!!!!

Great Thread! I used this to make my decision.

Trick Performance Products
Strengths:
1. HI front mount
2. Good price
3. All stainless steel construction for long life
4. 1 warranty on parts including welds and pipes
5. Easy to bolt in, NO CUTTING OR MODIFYING OF THE VEHICLE IS REQUIRED.
6. Quick Spooling
7. Upgradable to larger turbo, wastegates, blowoff valves.
8. User friendly changing spark plugs
9. A/C is not effected
10. Good starter kit for one that wants a HI front mount turbo kit.
11. Several Intercoolers to choose from depending on your application. Air to Air and Air to Water.
12. Drill and tap are included for oil return fitting that goes into the pan.

Weaknesses:
1. Kit requires a trip to the muffler shop for final exhaust connection (or a welder and 3' of tubing).
2. Intercooler available but not included in the kit.
3. Injectors, and tuning not included.
4. Not Carb. legal.
5. You have to drill and tap your oil pan for oil return.
6. You have to remove passenger side exhaust manifold and replace with new one.

Great New cast stainless manifold!

Easy exhaust a piece of 3" pipe in to re-connect to stock exhaust
Easy mount intercooler
Quick spooling my 70mm is full boost before 2000rpm
Like it says everthing included, all i added was injectors and fuel pump ( I was a non flex truck)
Drilling the oil pan and doing the exhaust manifold swap was only 2 hrs
Easy weekend install!
Just need tuning

Weakness #2
Actually all of our kits now come
With an intercooler.

No need in leaving it out.
Nice thread

On your stage 3 kit, what is the difference in power and spool time between the standard 76mm turbo supplied with the kit and the journal bearing precision turbo 76mm?

got an sts kit on my 5.3 makes 518hp 623lbs mostly factory minus injectors and valve springs & fuel pump.had to do a 4l80 tranny keep breaking. has intercooler and water meth

cons
lots of pipe work
extra oil return pump
airfilter under truck no more launching boats for me
extra wiring for oil pump
have to clean airfilter all the time

pros
makes way more power than even sts said it would
never get that glowing turbo problem dont seem that hot
stupid people think its just a cold air kit
no higher engine bay temp
no fancy headers needed
