P1 vs D1?

Alright as of now I have a P1sc-1 kit to go into my rig. I'm going to rebuild it before throwing it on, just for peace of mind.

As of now I am going to get it rebuilt to the D1 when I send it in but I just wanted to hear some input from yall.
stay with the P1 or go ahead and get it upped to the D1?

This will go with my mods in sig, plus a specd cam (212/224 115) 4l80e with a 3000 tc.

A D1 is night and day better on boost ramp up and HP potential than a P1. That said, and IMO, just throw on the P1 and run it. As long as it's making boost, not leaking oil through the cold pipes and the oil isn't full of metal shavings, run the P1. Get your tune/fuel/tranny/rear end dailed in and then pick up a D1 and sell your P1 after you've ahd some fun. It will be a lot cheaper in the long run and you'll enjoy it more. The P1 will wake up your truck like crazy and you can get a great re-tune from Allen at Nelson to get the most out of it.

You say it will be cheaper in the long run? how so, if im already going to get it rebuilt...(its about 4 years old and been sitting for about 6 months now) It about 3-4 hundred bucks more to get the D1 from procharger iirc.

(not trying to sound like a smart ass, i still have much to learn!)

Only difference is the Impeller IIRC

The D1 impeller is not yet available out side of procharger. There was a company that was working on the wheel(aftermarket) but it is still not available.. The wheel for the D1 from procharger is bout 1k( CRAZY) I have had the wheel off my P1 to replace the shaft seal. Unless you have the right tools to pull it off, you will more then likely break it, as it is pressed on the shaft.. You need some type of refrigerant to freeze the shaft, you need to heat the impller hub, then pull it off with special pullers.. I think if you have the P1 you will love it. But like Rick said the D1 will be a noticeable difference in boost, the rate as which it comes in.. I have been running the P1 for 2 years now on my 6.0 with a 3.5 pulley and the truck freaking screams. I am stepping up to the D1 however.. You will love the P1 with a decent converter and gears for sure..
