mp122 belt tensioner alignment question
3 Attachment(s)
Well installed the blower few months ago, and i managed to shredded a belt -found that one of my pulley is not offset enough so the belt was hanging off a little. well i went to auto store got another pulley with 3mm more offset which its closer but the belt still hangs off like a 1/8- 1/16 . i used stock idler like the instructions said. any ideas or part numbers i can use to fix this problem? i dont want to do the same thing to the new belt. heres some pics. the pulley i have issues with is the one with the green seal.

When you have a shiny spot in front of the belt around the water pump, it usually means the pulley is walkong off.

are you talking like the crank pulley spinning on crank? which pulley is my concern. im sorry im not understanding fully.

Sorry I was looking on my phone, and it looked like the water pump pulley. Afrer looking closer it appears to be the passenger idler. If there is the worn area in front of the belt it is telling you that at one time it was riding at the edge of that worn area. Now that the worn area is ahead of the belt it is telling you that something is moving. I would remove the belt and check all the pullies and idlers for any play. If there is play the bearings or the idlers need to be replaced. The cheapest easiest way I feel to check for alignment is with a straight edge. Place the belt on and run a straight edge across the pulley, and parallel with the belt. If it is off, it should show up pretty easily.

You need to move the pulley toward the motor correct? If so, the only way to fix that is a new bracket with proper standoff or you can send me the bracket you have and I will mill it down for ya.

Thanks for the replies!! Yes the pulley needs to move back towards the motor. I was also wondering about having to mill the bracket. I was just hoping for a pulley swap! Is this a common issue? Blown06 thanks for the offer I'm going to check with a neighbor that has a Bridgeport first.

So took the truck out today, the pulley looked worse than before I loosened set bolt the pulley had some play in it. Reset it and now it's straight. So took it out for the Woodward dream cruise put about 60 miles on it and rechecked it everything is still straight. Just have to see how long this lasts.
Thanks for the help again guys |
My old post here may help you. I had to machine off a few mm of a bushing/spacer.
Older post so the prices are different. O'Riley's carries most of it. Until I changed into that Gates tensioner I got a little rubber dust on the blower snout. I only runs Gates belts. Here |
