How far to push it?
I just finished a Trick stage 3 turbo, and am curious how hard I should push the stock 6.2. I can't dyno the truck because its AWD, and I'm not sure how much boost it will take to reach my goals of 500-550 at the tires. Truck specs below.
2012 Sierra Denali AWD 6,200 miles 6.2 L92 stock and unopened Fast 85lb injectors Stock flex fuel pump 160 Thermostat 72mm ball bearing turbo 6.9lb spring in the gate AEM Truboost Controller |
I think 9-10psi should get you there no problem.

screw the dyno...get you a good street tune and you will be over 500 easy
|
I was thinking it would take somewhere between 10-12lbs to make that power, but I was hoping to not have to push it that hard. So you think it may put 500 down closer to 9lbs?
|
I would think so. Make sure you've got enough fuel pump...not sure. Go run it and see what it mph's. That tells the story anyway ;) Never got my truck dyno'd either. Nice truck!

i would think it would be closer to 12psi but i could be wrong. reason why i say is because you dont have any supporting mods out side the fuel system is why i say this, well according to your sig anyway. 12psi is hardly "pushing it" this isnt a ford motor you know.

Prolly gonna hit peak HP early with that small turbo on a 6.2... But spool should be fast
|
hate to say it but if your hurting a motor on 8 psi you need a new tuner unless it was a freak accident (shit happens of course). i been running over 15 psi (15-17psi) for over a year now and was pushing 12 psi before that for a couple years , all this on a stock long block. my friend also has a c5 z06 that has been on 13 psi for a couple years no problems stock long block as well with a vortech blower.
i havent had the pleasure to dig into a 6.2 yet and play with it but i would say 500 hp could be achieved around 10-12 psi with the right tuning and fuel!? |
Stock 6.2L compression is 10.5. So, better keep it at 7-8 psi. Also, get a fuel pressure gauge to monitor your fuel pressure drop and get a good tune.
