Help Me Reach 500 Wheel
#1
2009 Silverado 1500 Ext Cab Z71
Flex Fuel 5.3 with 4L60E
Trick Performance Stage 2 Kit - 70mm
My goal is to make 500rwhp in my daily truck and keep it as dependable, driveable, towable and clean as it was stock. This means keeping the DOD. Everything is being done once and the right way.
Transmission = will be upgraded to a high dollar 60 from Performabuilt, Pro Built, RPM or FLT ( if they answer the phones!!!! ) Just not positive which model and company to choose as of now. I do not want to worry about drag racing, 4x4 axis spins, towing, road trips with what ever Trans I purchase. From what I've read here is that most high power trucks are w RPM and FLT. RPM answers the phones and has customer service but highest prices while FLT rings, rings and rings. Either company is gonna cost me under 3K for a nice unit. Also go with a monster sized cooler w fan and something like a 2600 stall
Fuel = Delphi 60# from five o motorsports. They are plug and play and should be plenty for my goal. Im reading the Flex Pump with a Racetronix Hot Wire kit will support decent power but will it support 500 without coming to close to the limit? This is the one thing I will trial and error with. Hot Wire the stock pump and see if it works, if it cant do what I need then I'll put in a 255. I personally think the 340 is over kill for 500 wheel.
Power - My butt meter and dyno numbers as of now ( 5 psi = 376hp 411tq ) say 500hp is capable with 11 or 12 psi. Trick Rick and New Era Performance ( tuner ) gave me the thumbs up as far as the kit being able to do it and on 93 oct. I do not want meth or race gas. I don't wanna swap cams or lifters or rockers if I really dont have too.
Most importantly here, the DOD with decent power. Who has actually done it? If i need to be the test mule for the lifters and cam then I will. I havent been able to find someone making power and keeping the V4 mode. It works great in my truck and i average over 20mpg on road trips. I love the feature and def want to keep it.
Those who have / made 500 what do you think about my plan? Any advice or failures you encountered that you can prevent me from running into. If I sold my car I would buy everything tonight but this project is gonna take a couple months to complete.

In all honesty, id be looking at a 4L80E if you want a reliable 500rwhp setup for towing.
it will be cheaper than a built 4L60E also.
and it never hurts to overkill something especially if reliability is a concern.
like said above go ahead and get a AM340 and with those injectors, you have plenty of room till they are maxed.
I see no point in the DOD crap, its good at eating cams i know that much.
the right cam like the isky 212 or 215 on a 114 lsa would make good low end and idle good as stock.
i get 23-24mpg with my 6.0 without the dod junk. and got 20.5 hauling back well over 1300# of, um, 50bmg ammo
, grill, 2 coolers and all the crap we bought back from oklahoma.
ive played the 60E game and it sucks.

At those power levels, the 60E just won't be reliable in a truck, no matter who builds it, there will be a significant chance of it going belly up.
The 80E won't even notice that power level is different from stock.
Building reliable power means over-building.

Yea its cheaper IF you can do it all yourself.
If its something you dont have the tools/space/knowledge for, its gonna cost ya some money to get it done by someone else.

A 60e that is fully built that could even come close to handling that power will be at least $3000, unless they came down from a couple years ago... I have a FLT level 5 built by Vince and it has handled the abuse of the blown LS2 but when she goes I'm upgrading to the 80e and be done with worrying about the tranny letting go.

i can get 80Es for about 500-750ish.. shift kit $125, stall $1000
Thats half the price of a build 60E plus you get a stall.
the 3-4 clutch pack in a 60E is tiny, i still dont know how it holds even with stock power.
im not scared to hook to 12000# and go with the stock 80E im running and its got 100k+ miles on it.
