i say regular arp head bolts will do

00buckshot 08-26-2011 04:33 PM

Have to admit, I do enjoy my head studs, but i think the bolts will do the trick just as well.......

Yeah, lemme know. Send me the part number too, thanks.

Have you had your beast to the track yet, or are you still getting it dialed in?

Roger, the Cometic part # is 202-391040. They are 3.910" gaskets that are .040" thick. I'm running that thickness of gasket for extra compression. These were too small for my 3.905" bore but should work great for you.

I had the truck to the track but the timer wasn't working on my side so I didn't get a time. I did embarass an SRT10 Viper truck though. Oh, and an Ecoboost, LOL. I'm spinning all four tires on launch and I'm sure my narrow exhaust is killing me. I'd guess I ran a 12.5 or so. I'm going to try and go again tonight.

Nice......If I remember, the 4.8 pistons have a different pin height. There is the L33 pistons which are flat tops. I would save the trouble though of popping in the those pistons. If your looking to bump up your compression. Get some 243's that have been milled.

AKlowriderZ71 08-26-2011 05:55 PM

L33 pistons = 4.8 pistons. Same GM part number in the catalog, it's been discussed here in the past. I've done my homework there already. Besides, I found a set of good used pistons for $80(less than a tank of gas, haha). Wish I could find some 243's for that price, I'd be all over them.

Coundn't remember on the pistons. Your combo is definitely a good running one.

What thickness are the stock gaskets? .051"?

TIM Z 08-27-2011 05:43 AM

Stock gaskets and bolts are going to be fine in your case roger, dont reinvent the wheel or get caught up in internet talk.

I rode in a 05 GTO, stock 100,000 LQ4, front mount turbo at 22PSI, runs 9.7's @ 144. Completely stock cept for LS6 cam.

Is this enough proof that the stock stuff will be fine? I can tell you more !

I just hate to see you spend money and wrench time if its not really needed since your not doing a total HI-PO rebuild .

Ok, you and I are prob never going to see over 14-15 PSI with our setups, the stock head gaskets do fine.

I've got a set of 243s that I'd let go but not for 80 bucks :jest:
