Talked to Chris at Circle D, he was very helpful. He recommended a 258mm single-disk with a 2600-2800 stall, and an SFI 3-bolt dished flexplate so I don't need a spacer on the crank.

if im right, a smaller diameter converter will be looser. I did the same as you.. SFI flex plate.. with a 60e front on the converter to avoid using spacer.. That converter sounds great as your turbo spools fast

Yank also recommended a 10.5" single disk but a 3200 stall so it doesn't drop at much RPM between shifts. They said locking at WOT with a multi-disk might net 1-2mph, but not worth it for a street truck with the additional cost and weight.

Go with the Yank 2800. You're going to see a significant drop in city mpg with the 80e/3200 versus a T56.

The stock 80e stall isn't bad at all with the turbo either, especially since yours comes on so fast.

I am running the 278mm 80e from Chris and I cant complain. I just wonder if I am blowing through it sometimes...13psi used to seem fast , now I want more but I will need a turbo, fuel pump and a converter.

I've got a 278mm 3200 here from Circle-D...great converter, drives really well in town, tows just fine, just wish I would have gotten a lower stall now that I have the blower on, it flashes to like 3700 when keeping up with traffic in town. You could probably get away with a 2600 or so and you'll be able to build boost when stalling up on the converter to get you going around town.

I have a yank sc3200 right now. I love the way it drives and tows, mileage is good still too. I swapped it out with a stock unit when it had a bearing fail. Mileage may have been 1mpg off between the two. The problem I have with the yank is I have a bearing going bad yet again and it's been maybe 1.5 years if that since it was replaced. It whines like I have a supercharger. According circle d it's cause from locking up the converter at low rpm in town. They have a billet piece to help support the bearing where yank uses stock pieces for this.

That being said I'm going to try a circle D for my 80e swap.

I do like how the yank doesn't flash real high and is really tight but when boost rolls in she opens up and let's the rpms flow. I had a truck thruster 3000 before this and between my heavy hoe and the big power it would blow right through and hit the rev limiter soon as boost came in. So go with a billet unit made for boost for sure!

So where does towing fall into the single vs multi disc issue? i know the op does not plan to tow, but if most towing is done unlocked and not at wot why not a single disc? this would also be in a similar FI application

I would not tow unlocked if possible. Great thing about power adders is being able to tow locked. Unlocked things get hot pretty quick if its a heavy load. Even on a stock converter. I was told my single lock up clutch looked new still when yank fixed the bearing. And I keep it locked as much as I can when towing. I have locked it in 2nd gear via hpt before while towing a steep grade. That way rpms could stay up and on boost with out riding the converter. Trans temps were starting to rise, that's why I did it. Used hpt to command 2nd gear, Tcc lock and away I went. Trans started cooling off immediately.
