Can't keep a/c belt on
Anyone else having trouble keeping their a/c belt on? Seems like any time i get into higher rpm with boost it tosses the a/c belt. The tensioner seems to be working ok, the belt it tight and a bit hard to get on. But i just can't keep the think on for to long.

Is it the original compressor? Even though I'm not boosted, my AC belt was getting thrown off any time I went over 3k rpms. Turns out that the compressor was going bad. It's a condition called "compressor slugging" where it starts randomly locking up at higher rpms. I broke 3-4 belt tensioners, and one belt before I gave in and replaced the compressor. Never had any issues since replacing the compressor.
Not saying that is what your issue is, I'm just saying that is what ended up being wrong with mine. |
Is your crank pinned? If not, you can try that. Else, you can convert it to the newer style stretch belt and remove the tensioner for the ac.

Get rid of the tensioner and get one of the stretch belts for the newer trucks. Mine used to come off all the time and it never comes off now with the stretch belt on it.

Tell me more about this "stretch belt".

So it's as simple as just removing the tensioner and installing the stretch belt?

Yep, I just rolled the new belt on, no special tool needed.
