Cam timing for turbo builds?

I always known about cam timing and how you can advance and delay it to bring the power band up or down, And i was wondering what will be best for a turbo ls build?, will this also depend on the kind of cam turbo, or NA or even if the cam already comes with 4 degrees retarded timing what will the pros do?

Depends on a lot of things. Are you talking VVT or changing the timing yourself mechanically?

Changing the timing manually

Question is a bit too vague... You'd have to give some goals or requirements to make that determination.

In particular with a ls engine will retard the cam timing benifit a turbo vehicle since they are mostly top end or advancing benifit more

Still too vague... depends on the engine, turbo, and cam spec.

Generally speaking advancing the intake still has the same effect of moving the volumetric efficiency down in the RPM range. Typically advancing the exhaust has an opposing effect where it can aid in top end power. This is the largest challenge with cam in block VVT cams that phase both intake and exhaust in the same direction. With a turbo however popping that exhaust valve open sooner can help spool them quicker. You open the valve to release more pressure and heat for the turbine to play with(which they LOVE). So while you may have moved the exhaust event to a place where the engine is happier at higher RPM you have moved it to make the turbo happier sooner.

Short answer is yes, advancing will make power come in sooner. But the long answer is that this is way to complex of an issue to give a blanket statement like that.

Did that help?

Yeah that makes sense i was think about doing this on the next cam swap but i think just aligning it the way its soupose to be will best

What are the specs youre using? What engine? What turbo?

5.3 216/220 560 lift, 7665 turbo 3.73 gears 4l80e

how do cam events between say a pd supercharger and a turbo cam differ? Im thinking about going turbo from my lsa supercharger and already have a cam for that and didnt really have to change cams.
