I have gotten where I dislike threads like this. I read through threads like this countless times and saw people ranging prices from 5k to 50k. It can really discourage people. When you ask someone how much it cost to put nitrous on their truck, they will tell you the cost of a nitrous kit. They don't say,"nitrous kit-500, dyno tune-500, flt 80 swap-4k, triple disc circle d-1100, 14b swap-1000, forged motor-5k, full exhaust-1k, etc..."

Most people tack on the costs of supporting mods when it comes to boost, but never do on other setups.

Yeah, I had 2500 in my turbo system, bolted up and could drive it around. Idk how but going from that to a 10sec pass cost another 7500 bucks.

I think the big sticker shock is imagining spending all that at once. If you spread your build over a longer period, which I feel most do, then the cost is somewhat manageable. It is by no means cheap, but it is a hobby and if you enjoy it, then spend it.

Yea if you dont want to spend alot of money on something like this, then spend it on tools to build it.

I have a KBRacing hot pipes kit and a BW S475 turbo. I think it come out to $2500. Cold side cost me about $40 to do. Intercooler was left over from my last kit so free?
Injectors $550, two fuel pumps with fittings $275, 4L80e 6 years ago $900, wideband $150, efi live $600, 4l80e yoke and new ujoints $50, water methanol kit also left over frok my last kit 4 years ago.

$5065 is what that adds up too.

If you go cheap then your prolly gonna be redoin it soon so it pays to buy quality parts from the begining.

My build is about done. I have the Tru-Boost controller, Trans lines and fittings and a tune left to pay for, Plus a couple VERY small odds and ends.

Upgraded fuel system, 4L80E Swap, Converter, Cam and all supporting things for it, and the turbo setup of course. Right now I am in for about $6,800. I have exact numbers somewhere as I have tracked every penny, but this is a ballpark. I figure I will come in at about $8,200-$8,500 total.

Worth mentioning that I did get a couple deep discounts and traded some powder coating work for some of the parts I bought as well.

I think if you budget 10k you're doing pretty good depending on your goals.

For Turbo alone you're looking at roughly:
Turbo kit 4-5k
Fuel injectors/pumps 1k
Tune $500 for HPTuners then learn yourself or pay someone to tune
Gauges I spent $800 (MSD Dashhawk,AEM FailSafe, AEM TruBoost)
Misc stuff on top of this for sure but say $6500 for turbo

Then you blow up your tranny, so you either rebuild yours or do 4L80E Swap:
4L80E goes from $500 for a junkyard to $2500 for a newly rebuilt one which is what I did
Converter 1k
Tcase input shaft $200
Axles $500
Labor I'm not sure maybe $500 if you have connections or free if you do it yourself
So $3700 for tranny swap

All in all that puts you at 10k

I'm getting too old and or lazy to do a lot of the things myself, I rather pay someone to do it for me so my price might be a bit higher. This should get me to 5-600whp.

But who wants to stay there? lol so next spring I'm going to do cam/heads/intake manifold so another couple k there maybe a motor swap who knows. It never ends

However, with no payment on the truck this is still far cheaper than buying a new truck and a lot more fun!

Guys he said nothing extreme.

Depending on the year and model truck he won't need fuel pump, injectors, tranny, etc

A flex fuel nnbs truck like mine was 5 grand. Stock motor, vette servo, Trans cooler, misc 3" exhaust tube and muffler, tune, misc engine stuff like hoses and fittings, and a turbo kit from a sponsor. DONE. I've done it and my install took one weekend to complete in my garage w basic hand tools.

The problem is, "nothing extreme" is VERY subjective. I plan to make around 650whp this fall and I don't consider that even remotely extreme. My goal for next year is to be at 800+whp and working my way towards the single digits. That is far from extreme in my opinion too.
