This sounds hoaky but when I run my truck at the track I hook a rubber bungee to the tensioner and pull it tight so it won't swing if I hit the rev limiter.
LOL- I was trying to think of a way to cushion/dampen the shock to the tensioner.

Might want to take a look at how much the tensioer moves when you rev- is it going all the way to the pass side stop, or is there room to spare, so that belt tension is maintained.

when the truck isnt running its a quarter from bottoming out on driverside stop, had my girlfriend rev it up, and i looked, it went about half way mark, it seems like this 2nd new tensioner i got, (different part store) the pulley is slightly larger in diameter, and the belt was harder to squeeze on, so maybe she will stay on a bit better now. thank you

The tensioner for our trucks if I remember correctly is off a 97 F150? I was told but i cant rememebr exactly but it was off a ford..direct replacement from the parts store so I bought 2 extra and keep one in the truck and I did have to buy a different size pulley because the one that came with it was bigger

That sounds like the Magnacharger kit tensioner. Does the Vortech kit use that also, or the stock GM tensioner?

yes this happens frequently... it has a lot to do with sudden on and off acceleration -

luckily i broke mine, but there wasnt any colateral damage... but I did get the HD tension replacement from magnacharger... you should look into it - sucker is big and beefy (yea that doesnt sound gay at all)

anyways - have your speakers up, you will hear it fall out the bottom... lol (it was a simple 5 minute fix once i had the part)

So to Recap:

The HD tensioner that maggie sells is the same as the one for a 97 F 150 with a 5.4 litre?

I'd like to try one.

I looked at one at autozone, but the pulley was on the opposite side as the stocker.

Ive been told the maggie one looks the same way.

Can you guys please reiterate if the Ford one works as a heavy duty replacement?

Thanks.

Standard Radix kit tensioner:

From 87-96 Ford F-Truck/E-Van 4.9L or 87-92 Bronco 4.9L
Dayco # 89222, Pulley # 89009
Napa, Gates, ACDelco # 38131
Four Seasons # 45869
Goodyear 49233

* Tensioner comes with the wrong pulley. Correct pulley is Dayco 89009.

Neither this one nor the Radix HD unit is a replacement for the stock GM tensioner.

I believe that the Radix HD tensioner does face the other way. Not sure what vehicles came factory equipped with it.
