Default Do Catalytic Converters Rob Horsepower?

In this video, a vehicle is dyno-tested with, and without, Flowmaster catalytic converters.

Flowmaster's ceramic substrate catalytic converters are intended for severe duty/high temperature applications and are engineered to meet or exceed both OEM and USEPA standards for performance and longevity. Protected by a 25,000 mile performance/emissions warranty as well as a 5-year/50,000 mile case warranty, these 49-state catalytic converters are designed for long lasting durability and performance.

Although I will not bash you for testing, you should use the same methodology for the before and after test. If the before test was HOT right off the road, the after test should have been the same. I have seen loses of 10-15 HP on heat soaked dyno's in warm weather.

Something is not completely adding up to me. I removed a pair of similarly designed ceramic core cats on a truck making about 320 RWHP and picked up 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile and gained 7-12 rwhp from 4,000 and beyond. Even the 200 cell count metallic core cats I ran lost a small amount of power. Anything disrupting the flow of a straight pipe is a restriction and therefore adding backpressure.

Just like Flowmaster to put out a video like that, to go along with their horrible performance mufflers.

maybe that converter is not that big of a restriction on a 220hp engine.....but what about a 500+ hp engine? I believe its a huge restriction
