any one here using a g tech

has anyone ran a gtech while at the track to see how accurate it is?????

Yeah, I've got one, bought it used of Ebay for $50.00. Worked fine testing my truck before my mods. I've finally got all my parts installed, so this morning I hooked up the Gtech to find out what improvement I've made and the damn thing doesn't work anymore. I guess I'll be going to a dyno.

anyone else???

at the risk of being flamed...i do have one, but with my garbage tune i pulled a 14.56 on the 20's, and on the g tech i ran a 14.6...I ahve also tested this on many other cars...it is actaully pretty accurate...but never as good at the 1/4mile

why are you worried about being flamed?

i use my gtech all the time. it is a little off from the track but very consistent. mine reads right at .25 quicker than my actual et. there is a correction factor for "pitch" that you can mess with but i never have. basically the truck lifts in the front and squats in the back and the gtech sees that pitch change as acceleration. the 60' reading has never been more than .01 off from the track. i have used it at the track 100times or so and after i use the correction factor i would say it is within .05 in the 1/4. it is a great tuning tool but just so i dont get flamed i dont post up the numbers that i get very often.

i used mine on the track and it was almost .5 slow. its a great toy if your just wanting to see if a mod has helped but i wouldnt post the times in my sig or anything.

oh and im using the el-cheapo ebay 25$ unit

darn I knew I should have bought on of those from ebay a couple of years ago when there were tons of them new for $25. I don't see any now. :bang:

Parish,

What version are you using? The old one? or one of the newer SS/RR units.

A buddy and I just went in on one of the RR versions for the simple reason the track is 3 1/2 hours from us and he does a lot of auto-x.. I look at it as a tuning tool, but I made a couple passes with it this weekend. It'll be good for setting shift points and such.
