How much does wheel/tire weight effect ET
 

Ran my truck yesterday on my stock 18" wheels and 285/65-18 toyo r/t's which weigh around 71lbs. So that's a 100-110lbs combo. If I get lighter wheels and different tires I could potentially save 30 or more lbs per. How much do you guys think that would help my ET.

My guess is a consistent one to two tenths off just depends, 80lbs still isnt what id call light. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but we're not really talking switching to a set of super light bigs n skinnys..
.1tenth off your 60' is worth .2tenths on the et. Change to a better hooking and lighter combo and their are more gains to be had with the domino effect..

Rolling weight has a very drastic effect. As far as the exact gain you would see I can't say. But it will Be big

My truck with a 28x9-15 rear, and a 225/60-17 on stock 17x7.5 front (53lbs each) went 11.12 @ 119.5. I went back the next week with the same rear tire, but a 20x9 Racestar with a 275/40 (64lbs each), changing nothing but the front wheels, went at best 11.31 @ 118, this was in a better DA also, 60ft was 1.64 vs the 1.62 on the 11.1 run. I could feel even the 22lbs difference in the front end if the truck.

Has anyone test different wheels with their truck? I have a new wheel/tire combo and they weigh 20 lbs heavier per corner than my old setup. I can’t help but think of the difference it causes. I’m ready to test it out myself at the local 1/8 track but I’m not looking forward to huffing 4 wheels, a jack and an impact Lmao. I just roll raced my brothers Mustang and we were even. If the wheel change makes the difference, then it’d be good to know and re run him.

Or roll the dice and turn it up a lb or two.

that article its self should tell you pretty much the answer, not worth much imo, esp if roll racing only (the momentum needed at start and stop is the most hp robbing not when already in motion imo)
1lb of boost would negate it, or get him to race like a man from a dig and hit the 4x4 button=no change needed..

I've never seen a good result at the track either. I mean it may help a tenth or two, but so will the weather so it is hard to justify. You always see the "it will be big because a reduction in rotating weight is even better than static" comments, but it never works out like it should on paper.

You have to account for the weight of the truck too........these things are heavy as shit, so if you look at from a % stand point, you are barely loosing any weight. A very light car (say less than 3000lbs. ) would likely show much better results.

You could calculate it. If it's not working out on paper you're just missing something :)

I think ill run the 17s to get my PB in the fall but keep my 20s on for the look

FWIW I switched to lighter front wheels ( dropped 30lbs each corner) and pulled the pass seat (50lbs) maybe. I saw a consistent 2 tenths of a second drop. I was running 13.15- 13.20 Consistently. Ran 3 Passes Friday night... all in the 12s with a best of 12.94.
