Front brakes?

Anyone removed front brakes on a truck that doesn't need a shoot. I was curious because everyone says with skinnies you have minimal braking with the fronts anyhow and I have a lot of weight in front brakes. Also if I removed them I could do a spindle wheel and drop event more weight. The truck may run 11s before the end of the year if all goes right and mid 10s or faster is almost set in stone next year. I realize this isn't all that fast but 40-70 lbs off the nose and rotational weight to boot for free should net some good gains in the 1320.

I plan to trailer the truck to the track and only occasionally drive it to street race or cruise to a show. Before actualy removing them I would turn my linelock around and see how she stops without the fronts working. I know it isn't ideal but this trucks rear disks probably have more stopping power then a full set of factory brakes on a f-body and certain as much stopping power as an old muscle car with drums all the way around.

sounds like a horrible idea to me

I bet you can find smarter places to loose weight rather than something you really need... like front BRAKES! Your HD frame weighs considerably more than a half ton frame and the ball joints, rod ends, spindles, 8 lug wheels etc all are designed for hauling cement bags and not for being on the light side.
How do you plan to run skinnies with 8 lug wheels?
How will you do a burnout with no front brakes?
Can you pass tech with no front brakes?

Go ahead and do it...just dont travel anywhere near the 4 corners area would you!

He would never pass any tech...period.

i left my linelock on by accident during a motor pass and thought i was going to die with just front brakes... i could only imagine with just rears :eek2::eek2:

I know it is left field but my logic is dragsters of all kind run no front brakes but they run 8-9s @ 150 plus with a shoot. Why not run 10s or slower, at 120 or less without a shoot?

I would like to find a light aluminum caliper and keep the fronts but a caliper isn't going to be cheap then I need to fabricate caliper brackets. Might be the only way to loose weight in the front brake department though.

I am running skinnes on narrowed factory wheels.
You mash the gas.
Plenty of car pass tech without front brakes.

Only vehicles without front brakes may burnout across the starting line.
This was copied and paisted from my local track.

Why would you line lock allow you to only have front brakes? The line lock should be on the front brakes and when engaged it will allow the fronts to work normal but they won't release because a line lock is a one way valve basically.

This is also why you put a line lock on a momentary switch not a toggle.

Dude, these are your fucking BRAKES that you're talking about. Do you really want to cheap out on the only thing keeping your truck from being a twisted heap of steel?

Either spend the money, or deal with the weight.
