Default First time at the strip!

Hey everbody,

As the title states, I took my truck to the strip for the first time yesterday. My problem now is that I want to be faster and quicker! Of the 9 runs I made, my best was as follows:

R/T: .624
60': 2.436
330': 6.341
1/8: 9.484
MPH: 78.91
1000: 12.165

E.T.: 14.435
MPH: 99.4

Air temp was about 87*.

The truck is a 6.2 with a S475/83 at 6#. I'm lifted 5" with 33x12.50s. Truck is otherwise stock. Without going to smaller tires, what is the best way to bring my ET down? I was talking to some guys at work about it and they suggested I put a new converter in it...somewhere in the 2600-3000 range. I have no experience drag racing so I'm not sure where to start to make the truck faster. Obviously I could throw some injectors in it and crank the boost but it's my daily and I don't want to blow the thing up! Do you guys think a converter is a good place to start? The truck has the 6L80 and 3.73 gears if that helps...

Thanks!

A converter and cam will wake it up a lot, but turbos really dont start singing until 12psi or so :p

I would love to take it up to 12# but I can't afford to build my trans right now. I have a source that can get me a converter for about $300. If that will help get the truck up and moving I'd be willing to give that a shot. I've also been contemplating putting some sauce to it....like maybe a 50 or 75 shot to get the pig going. Any input on that? Oh, I forgot to mention that it has to pass an E-test so I don't think a cam is in my future as I would want one with some good chop to it and I've been told that it won't pass emissions like that.

No way should you mess with nitrous if you are only on 6lb of boost. That turbo isnt even warmed up yet. My suggestion is drive it like it is and save up about $5k to drop on real mods and nice parts so you dont have to do things twice.

I appreciate the advice. What would you think would be the best place to start? Injectors and and a built trans?

What's it making for power now through the big tires?

How much injector head room do you have left?

No idea what kind of power it's making as I've never had it on the dyno. My tuner is telling me that I'm already maxing out the injectors. I'm on the stock fuel system still. I had the 7.5# spring in the wastegate this past winter. The tuner said I was maxing out the injectors at 5100 rpm so I went back to the 6# spring. I'm running a blend of E85 and 91 pump gas to keep it from knocking...

There is only 91 at the pump in my area. My tuner suggested blending the E85. I've been looking for a set of used ID1000s but they are still pretty pricey and I'm afraid of smoking the trans with the bigger injectors and more boost. Is there a good budget injector or should I just spend the money on the IDs then save for the trans?

I'd be curious on how rich it's running.

Factory flex fuel 52lb/hr injectors in those 6.2 should support at least 500hp on pump gas. Factory 56lb/hr injectors on the CTS-V's where good for more than the 550hp they made from the factory with a rich factory calibration.

With a dialed in tune on both engine/transmission 500-600hp still seems to be safe on stock transmissions. More in a car because they are lighter.

WOT the wideband is reading 10.5ish. I asked the tuner to keep it super safe for me because it's my daily. I'm tempted to put the 7.5# spring back in it now that ambient temps are up to the 80s and 90s. During the winter a warm day is 30-40*.

Any advice on what injectors I should be considering? There was a set of Bosch 60# in the for sale section for $300 but I don't think they would get me very far and I'm not sure of their quality...

Ah, that's why.

If you where in the low 11's which is still pretty safe on low boost, you'd have more head room on the factory injectors. Duty cycle would drop a good amount going from 10.5 to 11.3ish.

Go with some 750cc injectors, roughly 71-72lb/hr I think. That would give you tons of room, like 100-200hp more.
