Default 2000 Chevy , looking for drag race help

Just bought a 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton Shortbed . Would like to make it for drag race only . 4.8, 4l60E . Plan to strip it down as much as possible ,4/6 drop, caltracs ,single turbo. Not sure what to do for transmission and rear axle. Should I / do I need to do engine thing engine wise to start out?? I realize budget and racing don’t go together . Just want to spend my money wisely. appreciate any help /suggestions

turbo the stock motor, get a 4l80 trans and built driveshaft-driveshaft loop , replace the g80, get a Wideband, slicks or drag radials......and get a helmet

Lots of guys going turbo, even with the 4.8. Surely some of them will chime in with all their advice. I am running NA so I won't be much help to you.

The 4L60e probably won't hold up to a 9 second truck.Better be looking for an 80e
I would plan the rear gear last, after you know engine rpm and tire size.
Be thinking of a cam and stall converter too,

Pitt

What’s a wideband?

So you can monitor AFR- air fuel ratio. There are other things as well. Boost gauge blah blah blah. But the turbo setup and cam, 4l80 and then address the gears and tires. Rear end is pretty stout with a good posi or a tru trac. Do a bunch of reading on here and you'll get the idea. If you know the times you want to run then work it backwards. There are plenty of smart guys on here to help you plan once you get a time in mind.

small cam, dual springs, Borg S369sxe, pump and 50/50 meth with 80lb deka injs, stock 80e with shift kit, 3.90s and a trutrac. good tune on 20lbs will net you mid 10s easy. like said above, gauges to monitor important items such as AFR, fuel, and boost. run a single 450 pump with a hotwire kit.
