Default 97 Ram Fill-up issue

Hey all, just bought a 97 Ram 1500 that was a grandpa truck. The truck is in great shape (51k miles), but I've had one small issue with it.

The first time I filled it up after buying it, right as the gas pump clicked off for the first time, it started spewing fuel from under the center of the truck. None came out the filler spout, but quite a bit spilled out underneath the truck.

I also noticed when the tank is full you can smell the scent of gas near the truck after it is parked. Do I have some kind of tank vent issue here?

I want to put some exhaust on the truck but am not going to let anyone weld underneath it until I get this figured out.

Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to update this thread, the tank ended up having a hole in the top.

It had to be replaced, and now I was able to put some exhaust on the truck. Pics coming tomorrow.
