Are 4.7's bad????

I want to buy a Ram but, I hear chatter about the 4.7 not being the best. Seems like there are a lot of them out there. Give me all opinions you may have good or bad. Thanks.

Not sounding too good right now. What about the 5.7's ?

I personally wouldn't get one bad gas mileage and just more expensive for aftermarket parts

i've been at a dodge dealer for 7 years now and the 4.7s are great for single cab 4x4. the hemi's make a lot more power vs the 4.7 and are reliable. but neither is good on gas mileage.

my delivery truck is an 06 4.7, and my dad had an 07 5.7. both were driven hard at times and the 4.7 avg ~16, the 5.7 ~15. but when i towed my rcsb gmc with the hemi i saw single digits

I know a 4.7 extended cab with 3.92s with 150 shot wont spin the tires :D

Disappointing to hear, I really like the way they look. May have to stay GM.

Well let me see my buddys 4.7 has had tons of mods and nothing helped it at all and saw about 13 14 mpg and now he did a 5.7L swap on it. most expinsive mistake he made

the 4.7 is a great motor for a light truck or car...they're a decent design and have a fair bit of potential and almost zero aftermarket support so pretty much do exhaust a superchips tuner and gears and that's about it. you can build more power but it's expensive and in a full size truck it's still gonna be too gutless down low to get out of it's own way. my girlfriend has a dakota 4.7 with 3.9x gears and exhaust and it goes pretty good, on par with full size trucks with bolt-ons but getting much more out of it is only worth it if you're dead set on making it fast. i wouldn't get a fullsize truck with one in it, it'd just embarrass you every time you tried to get on it.
