Default a500 tranny

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 sprot, with the 318. i was wondering if anyone else had the same problem with the a500 tranny. cuz from what i heard. bunch people had problems with them leaking and with them slipping a lot.. i just turned 100,000 miles on the truck and the trans been slipping for awhile. anyone know anything cheap or then a new trans to fix this crappy as$ problem..

it's not a a500, it's a 46re... one main problem with them for that year is the Governor Pressure Solenoid. See if you can have the line pressure checked (any dealer and some shops should be able to handle this). If the line pressure is low, that's where i'd start. It could also be in need of a band adjustment.

Default re: governor solenoid (force motor)

the governor solenoid actually produces pressure independent of regulated line- line will vary from say 65 psi to somewhere around 140 nto 170 psi- it is proportional to road speed - nothing to do with the mainline or boost circuits. it is a road speed sensor for the computer- it also controls the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts hydraulically- when you reach somewhere around 45 to 50 mph it swings up and matches line- giving the computer control of 4th and lockup by grounding the othe side of those 2 solenoids- in the trans industry we refer to that trans as an A500 - dodge people refer to by the letter designation- Craig
