Default pick n pull rear end upgrade for 91 silverado

Hey guys I was at pick n pull getting me some leaf springs for my truck and saw this early 90s Chevy 2500 2wd long bed Silverado it has a nv4500 still sitting in there and 6 lug rear end if I'm not mistaken that would be the 14 bolt semi float right??any who I'm tired of my 1 tire fire so would it be worth it to go pull that rwarend and swap it in?is it limited slip or posi?is it a direct bolt in?thanks for any advice or comments in advance

If yours is 2wd as well then they will be the same width and it will bolt in. The easiest way to know if it's a 14 bolt is to, well, count the bolts on the cover. It's called 14 bolt because it has 14 bolts. To find if it's limited slip look in the glove box at the RPO codes. G80 is the factory LSD. Here is a link to more axle RPO codes so you know what to look for:

Thats kinda funny. Most people think that, but a 10,12 or 14 bolt name is really talking about how many bolts hold the ring gear on. Yes, for the most part it also is the same for the cover, but GM did make a 12 bolt that had a 10 bolt cover. It was a BOP rear. Doesnt mean much. Just thought I would share.

Good to know. But all 14 bolts have 14 bolts on the cover correct?

You need to know what kind of 14 bolt it is and the covers look different.

Don't concern your self with anything other then the G codes on that list.

When your looking for a 14 bolt, or parts for one these are what you are looking for in trucks. 2500 Vans are a good source for gears and lockers but not the rear ends since there offset.

G80 = factory locker.
GU6 = 3.42
GT4 = 3.73
GT5 = 4.10

Thanks for all the info guys I'm going on Friday to pick it up I thought that g80 code was just for s10 and 1500 vehicles but I guess not.i was also gonna snag the nv4500 also but thought that would be a little much since its a swb step side and I'm still rocking a 350 TBI lol.I'm already on my second nv3500 and I can't believe they would make such a big rear end and have it a open diff. I think that's the right term aka 1 tire fire.

So even if its open diff I can find a van out there with a 14 bolt and just take the guts out of it?

Yes. I have pulled several.

Also watch the same body style Suburban's as well for gears and lockers.

You never know what you will find. One of the Suburbans I opened up had brand new 4.10 gears and either a rebuilt or new locker in it.
