LQ4 swap questions
 

I have a 1996 2Door 4x4 Tahoe 5.7 Vortec
Mods are:
CAI - Hooker LT's - Custom Exhaust - Electric fans - 4.11 ratio - BB tune
Stock height and stock tire size

Anyway, I found a shop that can do a lq4/4l80e swap for 4500$ (Price includes engine, transmission and installation). I haven't decided if it's worth it or not yet.

Will the difference be huge power wise ?
What about the price ?
What else should i be asking the shop ?

find out how the shop is going to do your harness and if your gauges will work

Not a bad price at all to drop the keys off and pick it up completely finished, but how reputable is the shop? Have you seen any of their other work? If they seem to do quality installs/fabrication and stand behind their work, I would do it!

Also, if your 5.7/60e is in good shape, you'll be able to make a little bit back on selling motor, tranny, headers, etc

4500 for a junk yard LQ4 install? Brand new engine? I think we need more info.

Probably a junk yard lq4. He seems to be a decent guy, a couple of good looking cars in his shop being prepared as well.

He guarantees that everything will work after the swap which should take him a week or so depending on how busy he'll be.

My 5.7 is in decent shape, cant say the same for my 4l60e though...

That dosent sound bad,but it depends on how good a runner the new engine is,if he puts a 200,000 mile or more in it I would not do it,I got my 04 engine for 1100 and was suppose to be a drop in,until I pulled the valley cover and found a swimming pool,so 3500 later in parts and labor later I had a engine ready to go.

Power is addicting you will be wanting more! Bare minimum I'd do a cam swap to the motor before its all wrapped up with a pretty bow, just saying. $4500 doesn't sound too bad between the motor, tranny, and labor involved... As long as the motor doesn't have high mileage like the rest have pointed out. Hell a reworked harness alone goes for roughly $450 on up. You could save quite a bit of money and learn a lot if you did it yourself, or you could sit back and let someone else labor over all the pesky, time consuming, sometimes expensive details!
