gears in my '76 truck

I decided to make a muscle truck :drive: and was wondering about the gear ratio in rear. Is it optimized for towing and not speed? If it is what should i be looking to replace them with? TIA for any help :)

Do you have a ten or twelve bolt rear?
What gears do you have now?

I have a 10 bolt with 2.73 gears... it's great for the highway and daily driving.

From what I've heard 3.23 or 3.73 gears give good performance without suffering on the road. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
