Did you ever find out the problem?I will be putting a 5.3 in a 92 chevy pickup 2wd and i am trying to find out how to wire up the alternator correctly for the gauge and function but can seem to find the right answers.

I put an AD244 in my 95 Tahoe, I bought a single wire pigtail from rockauto.com and spliced it in, and it seems to be working fine.

I had an alternator that was acting up, wild spikes in voltage and it would not charge. took it to auto zone and it passed. so i went home and checked everything i could think of to no avail. So i took a screwdriver and a hammer drove the screwdriver into its heart a couple times(nothing to noticeable) took it back to auto zone and what do you know it failed that time. got a new one on warranty, and all my problems were solved

the brushes in the alternator are probably wearing out and making intermittent contact...the problem will progressively get worse until complete failure. also go through the basics such as checking all your connections, make sure everything is clean and tight etc.
